Profile

Ouchi Misaki — Painter / Community Artist. After five years of creative practice and running an art space on Yonaguni Island, she works across painting, large-scale works, art events, and workshop planning. As a community artist rooted in local life, she leads the creation of spaces that connect people to people, and regions to the world through art. On Yonaguni, she used her atelier 'Ethos Mika' as a base, hosting numerous concerts and workshops with artists from Japan and abroad. She runs Breaking Borders, a participatory art concert ensemble, and organized two events in collaboration with the Yonaguni Board of Education. Internationally, in 2022 she performed improvisational live painting with a local orchestra in Lübeck, Germany, across four shows (video link to be attached separately). This June, she holds a solo exhibition 'Days I Painted on Yonaguni Island' at the Saga Prefectural Museum, and is organizing the 'SHIRABE FESTIVAL Creative Residence' in Vienna, Austria — aimed not only at art professionals but at anyone who wants to share 'the good things about Japanese culture.' She develops diverse projects that are locally rooted while maintaining a global perspective.
